It should be enough. To make something beautiful should be enough. It isn’t. It should be.
In 203-222AD, Roman Emperor Elagabalus "loaded his parasites with violets and other flowers in a banqueting room with a reversible ceiling, in such a way that some of them expired when they could not crawl out to the surface". In 2022, I try to make meaningful art, and yet modern work seems to get away with merely asking for something beautiful and aesthetic, caring little about depth or concept. But is there anything wrong with making beautiful art? I struggle with these concepts in this piece, drowning a beauty with more beautiful flowers in excess.
